Meeting Minutes of June 2016

ATTENDEES: Present were Lou Brackett, Commander; Dale Yeckley, SVC; Lee Cogswell; Howard Gold; Jim Solace; Harold Pierce;Billy Johnson , Josh Hogstad

Post Commander Lou Brackett called the brief meeting to order at 7:00pm at Fruita Civic Center, Fruita, CO. The colors were in position and the Cmdr. asked those present to render an appropriate hand salute. All Legionnaires were asked to uncover, then the opening prayer was offered by the Commander.

 

The POW/MIA Cover was placed on the Empty Chair by Dale Yeckley, SVC. The Pledge of Allegiance was presented by Josh Hogstad.  The Preamble was read by Harold Gold leading those present. Commander declared The American Legion Post 2006, Department of Colorado convened. A quorum was present.

 

The Committee reports of membership (104%+55/57) and finance ($4,689.48 Acct./BB $1,149.73 BB Acct Balance) were presented. A motion to approve the finance report was made by Dale Yeckley, Sr.-Vice Cmdr., and seconded by Howard Gold.  Motion passed.  A motion was made to accept the minutes of the previous meeting by Harold Pierce and seconded by Howard Gold.

The Service Officer was not present to give his report. The  membership report was made by Dale Yeckley.  Motion carried. The Chaplains report was not given.

 

OLD BUSINESS: The unfinished business was presented to include: 1) Golf Tournament Update; 2) Participants of the JUCO Color Guard with District 13 Legionnaires, Fruita Monument HS JROTC, and representatives of each of the US Armed Services. 3) Herbergers fundraiser Chaired by Tommie Derryberry raised over $2000.  As information, Herberger’s plans for “Community Days” in the Fall and Spring; 4) Town Hall Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 24 hosted by The American Legion and Legion Post 50 of Palisade, CO. The program was entitled, “A System Worth Saving”, referring to the Veterans Affairs Administration to allow veterans to voice their concerns about VA Care, and the Choice Program.  The GJ Air Show volunteers were able to raise and receive $510 in contributions of which was placed in the Post Special Account for American Legion Baseball Team support.

 

NEW BUSINESS: Included: 1) Lou Brackett gave a “Project Sanctuary” update; 2) Blue Star Banquet/Program will be scheduled for Fall 2016 at the Atrium Assisted Living Center in Grand Junction, CO.  Parents and service members currently serving will be recognized; 3) With no other business being brought before the members present, the Post Comdr. closed the meeting , the Post Commanders Charge was presented, a salute was rendered to the national colors.

 

The next Fruita Post 2006 meeting will be held on Thursday, August 11, 2016 at the Fruita Civic Center (Independence Room).  Refreshments were provided.

Meeting was adjourned at 8:30 pm.
