Meeting Minutes of March 2017

ATTENDEES: Present were Lou Brackett, Commander; Jim Solace; Dale Yeckley, Curtis Gray, Harold Pierce, Jay Hoefling, Kenneth Kline, Howard Gold, Mike Davis, Tommie Derryberry, Dan O’neill, Finance Officer.

EXCUSED; Josh Hogstad,; Daryl Hillyer, JVC; Cal Davis, Chaplain; Elvia Bourland. 

GUESTS: Jay and Sandra Muller, Grand Valley Equine Assisted Learning Center

 

Post Commander Lou Brackett called the brief meeting to order at 1:00pm at Fruita Civic Center, Fruita, CO. The colors were in position and the Cmdr. asked those present to render an appropriate hand salute. All Legionnaires were asked to uncover, then the opening prayer was offered by the Post Sgt.-at- Arms.

 

The POW/MIA Cover was placed on the Empty Chair by Tommie Derryberry. The Pledge of Allegiance was presented by Curtis Gray. The Preamble was read by Jim Solace. Commander declared The American Legion Post 2006, Department of Colorado convened. A quorum was present.

 

The Committee reports of membership (82%+49/58 for 2017) and finance ($6,519.10 Acct./Baseball  Acct. Balance $1,149.73) were presented.

The Service Officer Report was not given but Legion members Bob Parker and David Wininger were visited. The membership report was made by Post Commander. The Chaplains report was not given.

 

OLD BUSINESS: The unfinished business was presented to include: 1) “Project Sanctuary” Update

NEW BUSINESS: Included: 1) Blue Star Banquet/Program will be scheduled for Spring 2017, location  is pending  in Grand Junction, CO.  Parents and service members currently serving will be recognized; 2) Herbergers fundraising opportunities and staffing schedule was discussed, as was a special film, “Almost Sunrise” was presented at the Avalon Theatre, Grand Jct. as a fund raiser for Veterans with Mental Health issues. A total of approximately $2,000 was raised. 3) Webmaster gave his updated status report. 4) Change in meeting times to the second Saturday morning of the Month . Assignments were given to assist with traffic control at the Family Health West Expo and Run/Walk.  5) Herberger’s Community Days Fundraiser was started with Legion Post members assisting with the in-store contributions by patrons.  A special thank you to the event Chair Tommie Derryberry for all of his leadership, planning, availability, and hard work that made it successful.

 

In addition, an information booth was provided by the Legion Post with health information for Veterans.o:p>

 

No other business being brought before the members present, the Post Comdr. closed the January meeting , the Post Commanders Charge was presented, the POW/MIA Cover was retrieved, and a salute was rendered to the national colors. 

 

The next Fruita Post 2006 meeting will be held on SSaturday, April 8, 2017 at Fruita Civic Center in  Fruita, CO.

Meeting was adjourned at 11:30 am.
